Wedding and Special Events Insurance

2016-10-25

Anytime you get a group of people together there is risk - risk that can be insured. If you are planning an event, whether a wedding, a fundraiser, or a family reunion, you have a lot to do. Protect your guests, your investment in the event, and all the property involved by purchasing a special event policy. Don't know what a special events policy is? You aren't alone! So we thought we'd help you out.

Question: What kind of events can a special event policy cover?
Answer: So many! We can cover anything from weddings to sporting events. Think of an event - any event. Maybe its a large family reunion, or maybe a soccer tournament. Maybe you are thinking about that fall fundraiser for you favorite charity. All of those events and so many more can be covered. There are restrictions and events we cannot cover, but we recommend you give us a call and find out if we can cover your event!

Question: What does a special event policy cover?
Answer: A special events policy is a general liability policy. It covers your event from liability risks - which means things you are at fault for. If someone gets injured at your event, or injures another person because of your event, those medical payments can be covered. If something happens to the property you rented for the event, the damages can be covered. Or if one of your vendors fails to show it can cover the deposit you have made. Want some more information? Question: But my event is already expensive, why would I add another expense?
Answer: Consider it protecting the expenses you already have invested in the event. Usually, a special events insurance policy is very reasonably priced. They start at $176 and are based on the size and type of event. The questions that need to be answered in order to get a quote are quite minimal and we suggest you price it out before you decide it's too expensive.

Question: Doesn't my venue already have insurance?
Answer: Yes, your venue will have insurance. But it's the same idea as renting an apartment. The complex has insurance, but you still need to get renters insurance to protect your stuff and the people who visit your house. They have a policy to protect their property, but they are not going to cover an injury to your guest when it's your event's fault.

Question: But doesn't my Homeowners policy cover things like this?
Answer: Yes, your homeowners policy will have some coverage for some of the risks, injury for example. But it won't cover costs if a vendor backs out with your deposit, or if something happens and you have to replace it last minute. Your homeowners policy is not built to cover large events and you will need to supplement it with an events policy in order to make sure you are covered.
