Winter is Coming - Be Prepared

2016-11-08

Don't wait until winter comes to prepare your home for the weather. Winter storms, from wind and rain to sleet and snow, can cause some major damage to your home and other property. Taking precautions to prepare your home for the weather can help prevent damage and keep your family safe and warm. Here are some quick tips to help with winter preparation:

- Start today! Don't wait until it's already too cold or the storm has already happened
- Keep your home at a minimum of 65 degrees to prevent your pipes from freezing
- Know where your water shut off is
- Get your Fireplace and Chimney cleaned, and close the flue when you aren't using it
- Clear the leaves out of your gutters
- Watch for ice and debris clogging your run off, make sure it's not building up against your house
- Clear any dead trees or tree branches before the next windstorm can

And then take a look at your homeowners policy. Know what your policy covers and what it does not. Enter winter with the peace of mind that if the worst happens, your family can recover. If you have questions about your homeowners policy, or think you are missing essential coverage, let us know! We'd be happy to review your policy and let you know what we think.
